Criminal Justice and Criminology Professor Receives Recognition for Research

Dr. Peter Lehmann has received the Outstanding Paper Award from the Midwestern Criminal Justice Association. His paper, Juvenile transfer status and the sentencing of violent offenders: A test of the liberation hypothesis, was published in the organization’s Journal of Crime and Justice.

“I’m very excited and very honored,” Sam Houston State University College of Criminal Justice Assistant Professor Dr. Peter Lehmann said. “It was totally unexpected.” The article was published as part of a special issue honoring the late University of South Florida professor, Dr. Michael Lieber, the journal’s long-time editor.

“This award exemplifies how Dr. Lehmann’s work contributes to our discipline,” SHSU COCJ Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology Chair Dr. Erin Orrick said. “Dr. Lehmann’s research record and this recognition of his work illustrates how he is dedicated to publishing quality scholarship that addresses timely questions and impacts the field.”

This is the second time in 2023 Dr. Lehmann has been recognized by an academic organization serving scholars in the Criminal Justice field. Earlier this year, he received the 2023 New Scholar Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.
