Dr. Jason Ingram has recently been elected as Chair of the American Society of Criminology’s (ASC)Division of Policing. This comes after serving as an Executive Counselor for the division for the previous two years in one of ASC’s largest divisions.

This society, made up of experts in criminal justice and criminology, is dedicated to advancing the science of policing and making innovations in the field.  In his two-year term, Ingram wants to continue the division’s goal of supporting, facilitating, and encouraging the dissemination of policing research. These goals will lead to better practices in policing while continuously educating practitioners and policy makers.

Ingram credits ASC for his exposure to new ideas and approaches from diverse experts in the field, saying, “it’s not just me. We do have an executive board and the board that was elected is fantastic and I am very excited to work with them…they bring a lot of perspectives and they have already been putting in a lot of work.”

Networking and communications are a huge part of ASC and Ingram looks to find innovative ideas to continue these practices during the COVID-19 crisis. Though this pandemic has affected the American Society of Criminology, Dr. Ingram’s status as Chair of ASC’s Division of Policing gives him the opportunity to serve the discipline.

Dr. Ingram is also an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology in the College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University. For the past four years, he has enjoyed working alongside criminal justice agencies and other institutes in the field who are committed to practice and research. Dr. Ingram continues to use ASC as a resource for making connections and learning new approaches to apply to his career.
