</p><p>The College of Criminal Justice will host the Victim Studies Career Fair to introduce students to careers, internships, and volunteer opportunities available in victim advocacy.
</p><p>The Career Fair highlights a diverse array of agencies and organizations that provide services to victims. These may include working with juvenile offenders, assisting victims in law enforcement agencies or courts, or helping survivors of child abuse, elder abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, or human trafficking.
Among the agencies signed up for the Career Fair are:<ul>
<li>Federal Bureau of Prisons</li>
<li>Gulf Coast Trade Center</li>
<li>Harris County Juvenile Probation</li>
<li>Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office</li>
<li>Montgomery County Women’s Center</li>
<li>Texas Department of Family and Protective Services</li></ul>
</p><p>To put your best foot forward at the Career Fair, Sam Houston State University Career Services offers several services to help prepare for the event. These include resume reviews, mock interviews and Jobs4Kats for internal and external job opportunities. The College has its own liaison, Carol Adams-Shearer, who is available in the CJ Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at the SHSU Career Center. Sign up for an appointment today at the CJ Advising Center.
</p><p>During the event, don’t forget to dress professionally, bring extra copies of your resume, and prepare a 30-second introductory speech on how you can help the agencies assist victims of crime.
</p><p>The College of Criminal Justice offers undergraduate and gradates degrees in Victim Studies. It also has two student organizations geared toward future professionals in the field, including the Crime Victim Services Alliance and the Kats for CASA, which supports the local Court-Appointed Special Advocates programs for child abuse victims.
</p><p>The Criminal Justice Center is also home to the Crime Victims’ Institute, a program that provide research on crime victims for the Texas legislatures and victim advocacy groups.
